The branch with the cones overhangs the footpath, so passing pedestrians could be unknowingly affected/contaminated. The Cedar is viewed as unsuitable for a small domestic front garden; it is of poor form with surface roots spreading across the lawn. Have received and viewed advice that Cedar trees should be a minimum of 12m (40ft) from a dwelling. Replacement planting of a more suitable species, such as Rowan or Holly, is suggested that are more suitable for wildlife.

Works: Fell to ground level and grind out stump. Reasons: The tree has outgrown a small enclosed courtyard, heavily shading the garden; the crown overhangs the neighbouring garden and the outbuilding roof, depositing leaves and fruit on the roof and in gutters; the trunk is close to the outbuilding wall; and heavy fruit drop creates a slip hazard on the paving. The tree is not visible from Bernard Street and makes minimal contribution to the public realm (see Photo 02). Replacement: We intend to plant one smaller, more appropriately scaled tree in the garden, such as a Japanese maple (Acer palmatum) or a compact ornamental cherry.
