- Pending1no. Oak (T231) - Overall crown reduction of up to 4m. A visual survey identified a compressed fork, with the possibility of internal cracking at the union. Overall crown reduction proposed to reduce the mechanical loading on the fork and help mitigate the potential risk of failure. The works are intended as a preventative measure to retain the tree whilst addressing the identified structural concern. 1no. Oak (T232) - Crown height reduction and reduction of lateral branches extending over 6 Churchward Gardens by up to 3m. A visual survey identified an elongated, overextended crown with a bias towards 6 Churchward Gardens. A reduction in crown height and lateral branches is proposed to reduce crown extension and associated mechanical loading. The works are intended as a preventative measure to manage potential structural risk whilst retaining the tree. All pruning will be undertaken using good Arboricultural practice, with reduction cuts made to suitable growth points and the natural shape and form of each crown maintained.6 CHURCHWARD GARDENS, HEDGE END, SOUTHAMPTON, SO30 2XPReceived 12 Oct 2026TreesT/26/1022963.78 km from centreEastleigh council

- Approved2no. Alders (A & B) - Pollarding to 3m. Dieback in crowns and in close proximity to the ditch and highway stone path to rear of garden. Trees were listed as mature in 1994 and after a further 30yrs are now coming towards the end of their normal life (60-100 years), they drop dead and rotten wood throughout the year. One tree had split into multiple trunks in its infancy and the weight of these individual trunks, hang over a path regularly used by school children which represents an additional concern. The intentions of these works is to extend the life of these trees and associated amenity by decreasing end-weight and thus reduce the risk of branch failure and support long-term tree health and amenity. Pollarding will also encourage fresh and vigorous growth and reduce the risk of them being uprooted in strong winds, several large nearby trees have been uprooted by wind including 2 mature oaks. Work will also allow further light into the greater general wooded area where many small tree are already growing and fighting for light and space to grow, including a mature Oak hidden behind these 2 trees. Future, it is expected that these trees will need pollarding back to 3m every 3-5 years. There is also a juvenile holly tree intertwined between and within these 2 trees, will be saved during this work, but it is suggested that this tree will be trimmed to ensure an aesthetic looking tree line during the process. Suggested that this work be carried out during the winter months to ensure minimum stress to the tree and cause minimum effect on bird life.8 PARK VIEW, HEDGE END, SOUTHAMPTON, SO30 4EPReceived 01 Sept 2026Decided 18 Oct 2026TreesT/26/1020344.02 km from centreEastleigh council
- Pending2no. Mature Ash Trees (T1&T2) - Crown reduction by 2.5-3m in height and 2-2.5m on all sides leaving a canopy spread of 10m in height and 15m width. These trees are now drawing both front and back gardens respectively, encroaching on the roof and walls and so this work is required to make their size more suitable for their surroundings, preventing damage to the property and allowing more light in to the house.41 LOWER ST. - PendingYour permission is kindly sought to carry out the following work on a rear garden 25m tall x 1m diameter, Oak tree. It's had some work to it in years gone by, but we now wish to:- remove a 4m long branch on the tree's southern side, being about 48cm in diameter, 3m up its trunk. Its removal would far better balance the tree's lower regions, having been tip-pruned before. Also, remove epicormic growth up to 4m on the tree's western side, with maximum pruning cuts to be 150mm. Further on that side, 2.5m up, remove a 100mm diameter x 4m long branch, together with a 6m long one, being 125mm in diameter, 4m up the trunk. Again, this would improve the tree's balance, without any of the work harming its health, or lessening its amenity value (these aspects not even being visible from the roadside). - WithdrawnThis application seeks permission to fell a single Ash tree due to its declining condition and the potential risk it presents to users of the childrens play area. The tree is exhibiting symptoms consistent with Ash Dieback (Hymenoscyphus fraxineus), including significant epicormic growth around the base, crown thinning and indications of early structural decline. Due to the progressive and potentially unpredictable nature of Ash Dieback, the deterioration of affected trees can lead to an increased risk of branch failure and, in more advanced cases, structural collapse. This is of particular concern given the tree?s location directly above an area regularly occupied by children, parents and supervising adults. The principal risks associated with retaining the tree in its current condition include: Sudden or unpredictable branch failure; Progressive structural deterioration or collapse; Potential injury to children, parents and supervising adults; Damage to play equipment; and Potential damage to surrounding buildings and other property. Given the combination of the observed disease symptoms, evidence of decline and the particularly sensitive location of the tree, its removal is considered an appropriate and proportionate measure to manage the associated safety risk. The accompanying aerial view identifies the location of the Ash tree in yellow and the location of the new children?s play area in red. Photographs are also provided below showing the condition of the tree, the observed symptoms and its proximity to the play area.Curdridge Reading Rooms Reading Room Lane Curdridge Southampton Hampshire SO32 2HEReceived 10 Aug 2026Decided 06 Sept 2026Trees26/01673/TPO0.31 km from centreWinchester council

- Approved(Amended) T1 Lime, Reduce the first south-western branch by selectively pruning the secondary and tertiary branch structure, with stem diameter cuts not exceeding 30mm, to provide approximately 3 metres clearance from the building. T2 Macrocarpa, first and second southwestern branch to reduce by up to 4m, 12m to no less than 8m, allowing a 3m building clearance and reducing the overextended weight from the branch. T4 Lime sp. Reduce the height of the mature Lime tree by approximately 3(amended) metres, from approximately 20 metres to a finished height of no less than 15 metres. Reduce the lateral spread of the crown on the south, west and north aspects by approximately 3?4 metres, pruning back to suitable growth points to achieve a balanced, natural crown form and reduce wind loading. Remove the first two south-eastern scaffold branches back to their points of origin (source stem approximately 55 mm diameter) to improve crown structure and reduce end-weight. T3 Macrocarpa. Dismantle and fell the mature Macrocarpa to 3m. Reason for Works The tree is approximately 25 metres in height and has developed in a prolonged suppression environment, being closely confined between a larger Macrocarpa and a mature Lime tree. Competition for light has resulted in a relatively slender stem supporting a disproportionately weighted upper crown. The main stem exhibits evidence of early growth stress, with a pronounced spiral grain and twisted bark visible from approximately 2m above ground level, indicating torsional loading within the stem. In addition, a significant longitudinal stress fracture is present on the northern aspect of the main stem at approximately 6m above ground level. The defect extends for approximately 2 metres, with pronounced zig-zag bark cracking, indicating movement and the potential for progressive structural failure. The combination of the tree's suppressed form, slender stem, top heavy crown loading and the presence of an active longitudinal..Oakdown Lockhams Road Curdridge Southampton Hampshire SO32 2BDReceived 03 Aug 2026Decided 05 Oct 2026Trees26/01612/TPO0.6 km from centreWinchester council

- ApprovedCopper Beech. Location: Rear garden of, to the left of the house. The tree is mature and overhangs the roof of the house. Size: Approx. 20m in height with a broad spreading crown. Condition: The tree is generally healthy and well-established, but its canopy has extended significantly over the house. Several branches are in direct contact with the roof and guttering. The dense canopy is also creating heavy shade and contributing to damp conditions on the roof and walls of the building. Cut back lateral branches to achieve a clearance of at least 5m from the house. Selective crown reduction on the southern aspect (by up to 3-5m) to prevent ongoing contact with the roof, house and gutters. Removal of any dead, crossing or damaged branches within the canopy. Reason for works: To prevent physical damage to the house caused by branches in contact with the roof and guttering. To reduce excessive shading of the property, which is contributing to damp. To maintain the health and structural balance of the tree.Culverlands Bungalow Winchester Road Shedfield Southampton Hampshire SO32 2JFReceived 26 Jul 2026Decided 07 Sept 2026Trees26/01531/TPO3.6 km from centreWinchester council
