- PendingT1 Ash Advanced Ash Dieback (ADB) and Recent Structural Failures To tightly pollard all union stems from the first bifurcation joint. T1 is an Ash tree exhibiting advanced symptoms of Ash Dieback together with recent significant bow/limb failures. The tree has developed multiple substantial union stems from the first bifurcation, which are becoming increasingly vulnerable to further failure as the tree?s physiological condition and ability to maintain sound woody tissue decline. It is proposed to tightly pollard all union stems back to the first bifurcation joint. This is considered an appropriate management intervention to retain the tree in situ whilst substantially reducing the extent and weight of the existing crown and, consequently, the loading and potential failure forces acting through the compromised stems and unions. The proposed works would retain the principal stem structure and allow the tree to be maintained as a reduced pollard rather than requiring complete removal at this stage. This provides an opportunity to retain the tree as a living feature within the landscape and to continue to provide ecological and amenity benefits, including habitat potential associated with standing deadwood and future retrenchment. The tree would be subject to ongoing inspection and future management as necessary, recognising that its condition may continue to deteriorate because of Ash Dieback. Should the tree subsequently become incapable of being safely retained, further management or removal could then be considered based on its condition at that time.Barton House Rectory Lane Meonstoke Hampshire SO32 3NFReceived 28 Sept 2026TreesSDNP/26/03745/TCA3.69 km from centreSouth Downs council

- ApprovedT1 Copper Beech - Reduce extended lateral limbs on the eastern side of the canopy by up to 1.5m to suitable growth points, maintaining a natural crown form in accordance with BS3998. The eastern side of the canopy has extended towards the neighbouring property, resulting in increased encroachment. The proposed reduction will provide reasonable clearance from the property boundary, maintain the tree?s overall shape and balance, and help manage future encroachment whilst retaining the amenity value of the tree. T2 Lime - Remove southern basal stem/sucker to ground level. A secondary stem has developed from the base of the tree and is growing towards the neighbouring property at an unfavourable angle due to suppression from the main canopy. Removal of this stem will prevent further encroachment, improve the form of the retained tree, and reduce future management requirements. T3 Ash - Re-pollard to the previous pollard points at approximately 2m above ground level. The tree has been historically managed as a pollard, with established pollard points located at approximately 2m above ground level. Cavities are present within the historic pollard heads, and significant regrowth has developed from these points. Re-pollarding is recommended to reduce loading on the historic pollard heads and associated areas of decay, thereby reducing the risk of structural failure and prolonging the safe retention of the tree. The current regrowth also extends towards nearby overhead lines, and the proposed works will provide appropriate clearance whilst maintaining the tree in its traditional pollard form. G1 Group of 5 Yew Trees Crown raise to approximately 3m above ground level on the northern side and reduce the northern side of the group by up to 2.5m to suitable growth points. Reduce extended lateral branches overhanging the access driveway from the eastern side of the first yew tree by up to 2.5m. - ApprovedWe moved into this property in December 2025. The house had been unoccupied for nearly a year and little or no work appears to have been carried out to boundary and trees by the previous owners. There are two areas of work we are proposing to carryout. Silver Birch tree to left of property. The Silver Birch tree has been pollarded previously and it is planned to pollard back to the previous level to keep the tree under control (crown reduction by approx 5 metres. It is planned to get the hedge under control and rover the boundary and a number of Lilac shrubs. Yew Tree to Right of Property. Once again the Yew has been left to grow uncontrolled. The tree is very close to the house (trunk 2.6 metres from building) and the surveyor commented that the tree overhang could damage the flat roof, and also the closeness of the trunk to the house could potentially cause damage to foundations through root activity. Apparently by reducing the crown it will slow root activity and reduce risk of roof damage. Therefore we propose to clear shrubs around the base of the Yew to help the rootstock and reduce the crown by 2/3rds (approx 4 metres) and shape the ensuing regrowth. Obviously for a project of this size we will be using a qualified arborist and dates have not been planned - I understand it must be at least 6 weeks from this email.. I have attached a number of photos for information, and please do not hesitate to ask if you need any further information.
