Reason for Works: The Sycamore tree has reached a size and condition that now presents concerns regarding safety, structural impact, and long‑term suitability for its location. The tree’s current growth is causing increased pressure on the surrounding area, including proximity to property boundaries and potential interference with structures and services. Due to its size and ongoing growth habit, the tree poses a foreseeable risk of branch failure, especially during adverse weather conditions. In addition, Sycamore is a vigorous species with a dense canopy and rapid regrowth, making ongoing management increasingly difficult within the confined space available. Removal is considered the most appropriate long‑term solution to prevent future safety issues and avoid repeated intervention. Proposed Works: Complete removal of the Sycamore tree to ground level. All works will be carried out in accordance with BS3998:2010 Tree Work – Recommendations, ensuring safe and controlled dismantling to protect the surrounding area. Replanting Proposal: A suitable replacement tree can be planted if required by the Local Planning Authority. Species can be discussed to ensure long‑term suitability for the site.

T1 – Mature Beech Tree Proposed works: Carry out a crown reduction of approximately 1-2 metres and crown lift to suitable growth points. Reason for works: The tree has previously been reduced a number of years ago and the proposed works aim to undertake a similar sympathetic reduction. The intention is to maintain a natural and balanced crown structure while ensuring the tree remains healthy and safe. The tree currently casts significant shade across the canopy and surrounding garden area. The proposed reduction will help improve light levels while retaining the tree’s natural form and amenity value. All works will be carried out in accordance with BS3998 (Tree Work – Recommendations).

2 x lime trees - to reduce both lime trees in the rear garden back to previous pollard points. Regarding sizes, around 35-40ft high, approx 18ft crown spread singularly, probably the same spread combined as their height. Reduce height by 2 metres (as you can clearly see on the photos, there are areas which are significantly overgrown and snapping off, which is dangerous) and reduce lateral branches by up to 2 metres (again, you can clearly see on the photos where the branches hang over our garden and also on to the neighbour's property).

Atlas Cedar - The broken branches should be cut back to suitable side branches where possible. The broken stumps should be cut back to the main limbs or stem where there is no branch to cut them back to. The lateral limbs that extend over the neighbour’s garden should be shortened by 3-4 metres back to suitable side branches. I would also suggest that the long lateral which extends back over the garden towards the shed is also reduce by 3-4 metres. This should be pruned back to a suitable side branch so that the crown has a natural flow rather than being truncated. Then selected long lateral branches that are clearly prone to failure are also carefully reduce back to suitable side branches to reduce the wind leverage on them. It is difficult to specify the exact branches to shorten as this may have to be decided once the tree is climbed. It is not anticipated that any single branch would be shortened by more than 4 metres but again this can only be decided by a professional arborist once they are in the crown and can see clearly how the tree is growing. It is vital to only take off the minimum length off a branch to reduce the risk of failure. It is also essential to maintain the natural shape of the crown.

Tree 1, shown on the plan, is a self-sown ivy-covered sycamore with a dbh of about 160 mm growing from the stonework near the base of a high retaining wall supporting Trinity Methodist Church land. The location is not sustainable, so the tree is to be felled and the stump treated to prevent regrowth.
